Shoes First with Marie Claire
In the name of priorities, our first official blog post is dedicated to shoes. Last week, we attended the fashion monstrosity that is MAGIC Market Week. Full of networking, samples for days, and fashion hobnobbing. The first stop at MAGIC was a breakout session with Marie Claire. Vice President and Publisher, Nancy Berger Cardone, gave us the lowdown on the magazine’s exciting new campaign debuting in the October issue: “Shoes First.” (You had us at shoes.)
A DID YOU KNOW? “SHOES FIRST” EDITION:
- 1,631 pairs of shoes are sold every minute (men’s & women’s).
- The shoe industry is a 42 Billion dollar business.
- By 2016, shoe sales are expected to increase by 25%, resulting in a shoe industry pulling in $52B in the next 2 years.
- Shoe sales are bigger than mobile phones, beauty sales, and back to school.
“A woman can carry a bag, but it is the shoe that carries the woman.” – Christian Louboutin
In Nancy’s words, Marie Claire’s mission as a glossy leader in accessories is to “take over shoes.” We like it.
For White Horizon shoe partners, this means several outlets are at our promotional disposal. The “Shoes First” platform will offer a variety of outlets combining retail strategy, outdoor advertising, daily giveaways, digital shopping, and social media amplification.
In addition, the publication’s long-standing affiliation with Project Runway will include a shoe challenge in Season 12. In an upcoming episode, designers will be given a pair of shoes and instructed to create a design around them. Significant broadcast coverage for a lucky list of emerging and established shoe collections!
For smaller lines, Marie Claire will engage its 1.3 Million Twitter followers with a social media daily give away. The 30 pairs in 30 days (or 30 days of giveaways, not sure about the exact title) initiative will provide new and emerging shoe designers an appropriate outlet for building brand awareness. (And for delighting a stranger with a new pair of shoes.)
